Hey kids! The Fort Myers Miracle need your help this holiday season.
The Miracle is hosting a contest for students, grades kindergarten through eighth grade, for the creation of their official holiday e-card. The winning design will be converted into digital form and be send to Miracle friends and business partners.
The winner of the selected design will receive a special prize from Sway and the Miracle. All entries must be submitted to the Miracle before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15. Participants can personally deliver submissions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday or send entries via mail to:

Yappy Hour with Santa & Ugly Sweater Contest
The Gulf Coast Humane Society (GCHS) will celebrate the holidays this Friday, December 11th from 6 to 8 pm during Yappy Hour at the Bell Tower Shops. Santa will be visiting during the event and GCHS will be hosting pictures with Santa along with an ugly sweater contest.
Participants can celebrate the season by having their Santa pet photo taken, and with a suggested donation of $5.00 the photo will be emailed to remember their holiday Yappy Hour.
Attendees will also have the chance to enter an ugly sweater contest. Three prizes will be awarded for the contest. A prize will be awarded to the dog with the ugliest sweater as well as the person wearing the ugliest sweater, and finally a prize to the best dog-owner ugly sweater duo.
During the evening, t-shirts will be offered for sale and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the shelter. A variety of vendors will be in attendance for the evening’s festivities, which will include music provided by the Bell Tower Shops.
Gulf Coast Humane Society, located at 2010 Arcadia Street in Fort Myers, was established as the first non-profit animal welfare organization in southwest Florida in 1947. The 501(c)(3) mission is to rescue, provide safe refuge and compassionate care, and find forever homes for abandoned and neglected animals in the area. GCHS only takes in owner surrendered and transfers from other shelters and rescue groups with a high success rate of adoptions. Their veterinary clinic is open to the public and offers a full array of affordable services six days a week.

Slough Photography Contest
The Friends of the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve seventh annual photo contest is underway. Entries will be accepted until January 31 at 3:30 p.m. Award winners will be notified by February 14, and prizes awarded at a reception at the Interpretive Center, 7751 Penzance Blvd. in Fort Myers on February 27, 2016.
There are five categories including Animals, Plants, Open (photos other than animals and plants), Altered and Youth (Ages 17 and under). Each photographer may submit three photos for the entry fee of $10. Top prize in each category provided by Lee County Parks and Recreation is a one-year Lee County Parking Sticker good at 18 parks and boat ramps in Lee County. Second and third place winners will receive gift certificates good for purchases in the Friends Corner Shop at the Interpretive Center at the Slough.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges including Geoff Coe, professional photographer, Dr. Charles O’Connor, Friends Vice-President and Education chair person and James Mathisen, US Fish and Wildlife Service Ranger and photography specialist.
Please submit your favorite photos of the Slough to the contest. This event is an opportunity for you to share your beautiful views of this very special natural area and its native wildlife. Pictures of non-native and exotic plants and wildlife are not considered for the judging. Pictures may have been taken at any time at the Slough.
Winning photos will be displayed at the Slough Interpretive Center. Winning photos are also used for postcards for purchase by visitors in Friends Corner and for advertising for Slough and Friends events.

presents It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Show
Lehigh Senior Center for the Arts will perform It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Show the nights of December 10-12, at 7 p.m. at Lehigh Senior High School auditorium.
Inspired by Frank Capra’s cinematic classic, this beloved holiday treat brings the spirit of the season to life right before your eyes. Performed as a 1940s live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience, eight actors play the dozens of characters in Bedford Falls as well as produce all the sound effects.
A nostalgic blend of holiday cheer and theatrical magic, you will fall in love all over again with George Bailey and the angel named Clarence who saves his life on Christmas Eve.
Join Lehigh Senior as the school is transformed into a vintage, New York City radio studio on Christmas Eve. Tickets are $5 students, $7 adults and are available at the box office before each show. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the start of the show.
It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play runs approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes with an intermission.
